Recent City Development Updates The technology center called Tech Town, which is located just east of downtown, has been expanding into nearby land and the growth continues. The city recently signed two contracts for firms to locate in Tech Town. One is a Censor Technology company and the other is a Radio Frequency group. Tech Town is an emerging market and both companies are the only of their kind in the nation. More info>> The Greene along highway 675 is currently under construction. The Greene is a lifestyle center. The city recently took a cornfield and turned it into this center. Today it houses an outdoor mall called Village Green with on street parking with meters - the monies collected from the meters is donated to charities. To date the center has been a huge success! More info>> The University of Dayton and the Miami Valley Hospital recently purchased property from NCR and are awaiting approval from the city for the master plan to be released. Both groups are planning to expand and use the property to increase their facilities and services. The University of Dayton is planning to expand ' Brown Street ' which is where their student village is housed. More info>> Healthcare has been a large industry in Dayton. Currently individuals from Dayton and the surrounding areas frequent three of Dayton's largest Hospitals. Recently St. Elizabeth's Hospital closed it's doors and three of the larger hospitals in the area have taken off and do a booming business. A group of investors came in an bought the St. Elizabeth's hospital building and have turned it into a full medical mall. They have leased out medical office space and now the parking lot is completely full. St. Elizabeth's is located in the heart of the hospital care area. Not only does it have medical offices but an urgent care and psychology ward are just two of the recent additions that make this a wonderful addition to our already booming medical facilities. More info>> Dayton's downtown area now has a new office tower. Care Source, a Michigan based company will be occupying the building and will be hiring 900 - 1000 employees. The cities contribution was to build a parking garage across the street, which will handle all of the parking needs for this building and the surrounding area. More info>> Urban Nights is a city and downtown event that many Dayton and Miami Valley people attend. Live art performances take place and various housing options are on display as well as information about upcoming changes to the area. Over 25,000 people attended this wonderful event this year and tickets sold out instantly for it. More info>> The Salvation Army is building a $66M, which will hold a recreational area and educational center for our youth. The anticipated impact that this facility will have on our youth will be a benefit to all who live in the Dayton area. More Info>> Ball Park Village and North Mandalay Entertainment is building an entertainment lifestyle center downtown. Three different adjacient sites will house a retail center with 300 traditional apartments above them as well as a lifestyle center which will house restaurants and 200 housing units. With the additional 500 housing units added to our current housing inventory we are hoping that this will accommodate individuals moving into the area and will help to reduce the deficit in our current available housing market. More info>> The Area The Birthplace of Aviation, Dayton was once the home of Wilbur and Orville Wright. Today the city offers great attractions and historical sites, fantastic arts venues, thriving downtown, beautiful parks, a variety of sporting sites and wonderful shopping and dining. Aviation Heritage The human imagination found its highest expression in three men from Dayton, Ohio. Wilbur and Orville Wright, first to fly a heavier than air powered machine and creators of the first practical airplane, and Paul Laurence Dunbar, who with his compelling new voice was the first African American to win high distinction in American Literature. Dayton Aviation Heritage commemorates the lives and legacies of these three exceptional men and the history of aviation. Climate Winters average lows are 5 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit and highs are 10 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit. Heavier clothing layers are appropriate. Summers average lows are 65 80 degrees Fahrenheit and highs are 79 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Hot, humid weather is possible.
